The “Father of the Internet” is finally retiring

Vinton Cerf, widely known as one of the architects of the internet for his foundational work on TCP/IP, is stepping down from his position as Google’s chief internet evangelist after over 20 years. Cerf, 83, plans to retire following a long career that includes receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Turing Award. At a recent conference, Cerf shared insights on the future of AI, arguing that autonomous AI agents will necessitate new, precise communication standards rather than relying solely on natural language, to ensure interoperability and avoid the ambiguities of human conversation.
