Character.AI wants a piece of the microdrama pie

Character.AI has introduced c.ai Series, a new initiative featuring short-form, AI-animated videos designed to compete in the growing microdrama market. Unlike typical live-action microdrama apps, these series utilize generative AI for visuals and audio while employing human screenwriters to ensure narrative quality. A key differentiator is the interactive component, allowing viewers to engage in roleplay or conversations with characters from the shows, with specific constraints in place to prevent spoilers. The initial rollout includes three animated series, with plans to eventually open creation tools to the broader user community. CEO Karandeep Anand emphasized that the company focused on maintaining visual consistency and safety, restricting interactive chat features to users over 18.
