Google’s Pet Memory forgot who my cats are

Google’s new Pet Memory feature, part of the Gemini for Home and Google Home Advanced Plan, aims to use generative AI to help Nest cameras recognize individual pets rather than just general animals. However, after a two-week test using indoor Nest Cams to monitor three cats, the author found that the AI consistently misidentified every cat as the first one registered, Smokey, and failed to build proper visual profiles. This misidentification also disrupted automated pet-feeding setups, causing food bowls to overflow. While smart home cameras and continuous recording remain useful for general pet monitoring, the current iteration of Pet Memory proves unreliable for tracking individual animals.
