Since launching in September 2024, OpenAI Academy has hosted more than 250 events and reached over 4 million people, offering practical AI training for educators, small business owners, developers, nonprofit leaders, and community members. The Academy has grown from a focus on developers and mission-driven organizations to include self-paced courses, practical guides, in-person workshops, large multi-site AI Skills Jams, and new learning paths for knowledge workers, developers, leaders, educators, and college students with badge-earning assessments. Community partners have been central to programming, including a K–12 educator AI Skills Jam that brought together over 1,600 teachers and administrators across eight U.S. cities. Now, OpenAI is piloting the Academy Community Trainer Program, which trains partner organization staff to teach Academy curriculum and lead practical workshops locally—covering workflows demonstration, peer learning facilitation, and participant coaching. The goal is to build community-level training capacity so people can practice, learn from one another, and gain confidence using AI in daily life.
