Google tests letting Gemini call businesses for you

Google is testing a new feature called "Call for Me" that allows its AI assistant Gemini to call businesses on behalf of users. The feature will initially roll out to Pixel 11 owners in the U.S. who have a Gemini subscription and use the beta version of Google's Phone app for Android. During calls, Gemini can share user-approved personal information, navigate automated phone menus, wait on hold, and handle conversations with businesses — enabling tasks such as checking product stock, making restaurant reservations, rescheduling appointments, or placing items on hold. Users can monitor calls through a live transcript and take over at any time, with calls being made using the user's own phone number. The launch builds on years of Google's AI-assisted calling experiments, including earlier features like "Ask for Me," "Hold for Me," "Talk to a Live Ref," and "Direct My Call." Google is starting at a small scale because "real-world conversations are nuanced" and the feature needs time to be refined before broader rollout.
