OpenAI gives Codex reusable cloud environments that work across devices

OpenAI introduced several major updates to its software engineering agent Codex at Dev Day. The headline feature is reusable cloud development environments accessible from any device — computer, phone, or cloud — making cloud tasks more persistent and configurable rather than isolated sandboxes. Codex CLI received updates including voice-driven task management, a new /agents view for delegating work and tracking multiple tasks, improved prompt editing and session resuming, and a cleaner terminal interface. Codex was also integrated into a new code review experience within the ChatGPT desktop app, allowing users to read summaries, explore code changes, and get feedback on GitHub pull requests or GitLab merge requests, with automatic reviews available even when users are away. OpenAI additionally launched Codex Security Cloud, a toolset for scanning GitHub repositories, investigating findings, and preparing fixes in the cloud — including access to models from its Daybreak Blue cybersecurity initiative. API updates included a new Decisions API for real-time decision-making using Luna, and an updated Agents API supporting computer use and Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents for running OpenAI agents entirely on AWS.
