Let skills in Gemini tackle your most repetitive tasks

Google is rolling out "skills" in Gemini globally, allowing users to save their most-used instructions once and reuse them by typing a forward slash and the skill's name. Skills can help prepare presentations, match writing styles, generate multiple perspectives, and more. Gemini can automatically build skills from chats and run them when a matching prompt is entered, and multiple skills can be stacked together. Users can also create skills that include reference files like plain text, PDFs, or images. Skills will replace Gems: Google will automatically migrate existing Gems to skills when support ends, starting in November for personal accounts, March 2027 for Workspace business, enterprise, and nonprofit customers, and June 2027 for Workspace education customers. Opal, Google's mini-app building experiment, will also be discontinued in November alongside the Gems removal.
