DLSS 5 gets toned down for its Hogwarts Legacy debut next month

Nvidia's DLSS 5 arrives in Hogwarts Legacy on November 5th with subtler face changes after earlier criticism.

Summary

Nvidia's DLSS 5 technology, which was criticized earlier this year for dramatically altering characters' faces in games like Hogwarts Legacy and Resident Evil Requiem, is set to make its proper debut in Hogwarts Legacy on November 5th with significantly toned-down effects. New comparison screenshots show subtle facial changes similar to those in NBA 2K27, with teenagers no longer appearing middle-aged. Nvidia maintains that developers have detailed artistic control over the technology's implementation. Additionally, an October update to Nvidia's neural rendering system will make DLSS 5 twice as fast on RTX 50-series GPUs and upcoming RTX Spark laptops, shrinking the model's parameters by 24 percent and reducing 4K VRAM usage by 20 percent. This new model debuts first in NBA 2K27 on October 16th and will ship by default with future DLSS 5 games. Nvidia also released a beta update for its app introducing a faster performance mode for Frame Generation on RTX 40- and 50-series GPUs, using a lighter algorithm that boosts frame rates by up to 35 percent with minor image quality trade-offs. DLSS 5 is also coming to Where Winds Meet late next month.
