Expanding our partnership with GSA to bring Claude to all levels of government
Summary
Anthropic is expanding its partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA) through a new agreement that provides a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API — the first time such a discount applies across every product surface and extends to state, local, tribal, and territorial governments. The discounts are estimated to save the government $1 billion, with no minimum spend commitment required. Approximately 500 US federal, state, and local government organizations currently use Claude, with weekly Claude for Government active users up eightfold since February and usage across federal civilian agencies growing about 20-fold in a year. Government agencies are deploying Claude for tasks such as managing backlogs, modernizing legacy code, and cybersecurity defense — with notable results including an 8-minute ransomware response time, detection of vulnerabilities missed by human penetration tests, and rapid code migration projects. Anthropic is also launching a dedicated implementation program for government agencies. Claude for Government, which offers near-feature parity with commercial offerings at a FedRAMP High authorization level, became generally available on September 30. The API is available through Amazon Bedrock (FedRAMP High, DoD IL4/IL5 authorized) and Google Cloud Vertex AI (FedRAMP High), while Claude Enterprise is pursuing FedRAMP Moderate authorization through the FedRAMP 20x program.
