OpenAI is finally merging ChatGPT's chat and Work tabs
Summary
OpenAI is preparing to merge the Chat and Work tabs within the ChatGPT experience, according to an email sent to users. The move aims to resolve confusion caused by the ChatGPT desktop app's multiple sections, including ChatGPT and Codex, and the Chat and Work tabs within the former. OpenAI said the merged experience will initially be available to select users for feedback before a wider rollout, allowing users to move from exploring an idea to having ChatGPT carry it through in one place, including bringing in files and plugins to build websites, create presentations, or perform tasks on the web while reviewing and guiding its work. Codex will remain a separate experience in the desktop app. Additionally, both ChatGPT and Codex will draw tokens from the same allowance pool; OpenAI said this won't impact most users, though some may need to wait for resets more frequently depending on usage and model. The change follows rival Anthropic's September merge of Claude's chat and Cowork functions into one screen.
