Anthropic CEO: It's patriotic to disagree with government

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that his company was exercising its First Amendment rights when it refused the Pentagon’s demands regarding the use of its AI model, Claude. Amodei believes that disagreeing with the government is a fundamentally American value and that Anthropic acted patriotically by upholding its principles against mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons. He indicated a willingness to challenge any formal action taken against the company in court. This stance drew criticism from both former President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who labeled Anthropic a national security risk and vowed to blacklist the company. In contrast, OpenAI has finalized a deal with the Defense Department to utilize its AI models.
