Perplexity’s Personal Computer turns your spare Mac into an AI agent

Perplexity has launched Personal Computer, an AI agent tool designed to turn a spare Mac into a 24/7 locally-run AI system. This system, described as “a digital proxy for you,” has full access to a user’s files and apps and can be controlled from any device. It builds upon Perplexity’s earlier Perplexity Computer, offering deeper personalization and enhanced security features like a full audit trail and a kill switch. While currently in waitlist access, Personal Computer is aimed at professional use, assisting with tasks like drafting emails, creating presentations, and candidate ranking, but also hints at broader consumer appeal due to its ability to run on consumer-grade devices like the Mac Mini. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas believes this tool could significantly empower individuals, even enabling a single person to build a billion-dollar company by overcoming the limitations of time.
