Google Maps is getting an AI ‘Ask Maps’ feature and upgraded ‘immersive’ navigation

Google announced significant updates to Google Maps, including the introduction of “Ask Maps,” a Gemini-powered conversational feature allowing users to ask complex questions about their surroundings. For example, users can ask where to charge a phone or find a lit tennis court. The feature personalizes responses based on user preferences and past activity. Additionally, Maps is receiving an “Immersive Navigation” update, featuring a 3D view, detailed road information, and more natural voice guidance. This update aims to reduce guesswork during trips by providing clearer visuals and real-time information about traffic, lane changes, and potential disruptions. The new features are rolling out in the U.S. and India, with wider availability planned for the coming months, and will be available on various platforms including Android, iOS, CarPlay, and Android Auto.
