University of Utah trustees greenlight creation of state's first AI bachelor's degree

The University of Utah's board of trustees has approved a proposal for a new bachelor's degree in artificial intelligence, marking the first program of its kind in the state. Housed within the Kahlert School of Computing, the curriculum will combine foundational computer science and mathematics with specialized studies in machine learning, robotics, and natural language processing. The program also emphasizes the ethical and effective use of AI technology. Pending final approval from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the university aims to begin accepting students for the fall 2026 semester to meet the growing demand for tech workers in Utah.
