ByteDance trains massive AI model in bid to rival Anthropic

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is aggressively expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities by developing a massive new model through its Seed research team. Unlike many peers that rely on model distillation, ByteDance has chosen an independent development path to achieve world-leading capabilities, matching its ambition to rival top global labs like Anthropic. With heavy investments in data centers, custom chip ambitions, and its Volcano Engine cloud unit, ByteDance continues to scale its AI infrastructure alongside its flagship consumer product Doubao.
