Linux Foundation's Latest Foray Is To Standardize Internet-Native Payments For AI Agents

The Linux Foundation has announced the launch of the x402 Foundation, an open-governance body dedicated to standardizing internet-native payments for AI agents and applications. Based on the x402 protocol contributed by Coinbase, the initiative aims to integrate secure payment capabilities directly into HTTP web interactions, allowing for seamless transactions. The project is supported by major industry players including AWS, American Express, Cloudflare, Google, Mastercard, Stripe, and Visa. The x402 protocol emphasizes a vision of zero fees, zero friction, and no centralization to facilitate autonomous financial transactions between AI agents and APIs.
