The founder of Hinge raised $18M to build a new AI dating service, Overtone

Justin McLeod, the founder of Hinge, has secured $18 million in funding to launch Overtone, a new dating service. Backed by Match Group, FirstMark Capital, and Pace Capital, Overtone aims to move away from traditional profile-based swiping and algorithmic feeds. Instead, the service utilizes AI to facilitate high-quality, voice-forward introductions based on relationship science and individual storytelling. Addressing widespread user burnout with existing dating apps, McLeod intends for Overtone to provide a more curated, thoughtful experience. The service, which features board members including Esther Perel and Spencer Rascoff, is scheduled for a limited launch later this year.
