OpenAI may announce a ChatGPT smart speaker this year

OpenAI is reportedly developing a screenless smart speaker integrated with ChatGPT that utilizes cameras and sensors to interact with the user's environment. According to a Bloomberg report, the device will feature a rechargeable battery, smart home controls, and media playback capabilities, powered by OpenAI’s new GPT-Live voice model. The device is expected to incorporate mechanical elements for a more humanlike interaction.

This project is part of a broader hardware strategy involving approximately five devices, developed in collaboration with former Apple designer Jony Ive. While rumors suggest a long-term roadmap through 2027, the company is also preparing for the release of the Codex Micro gadget on July 15th. The news follows recent legal tensions between OpenAI and Apple regarding hardware secrets, which OpenAI has publicly denied.
