Here’s the problem with putting an AI image generator in Google Earth

Google Earth's newly launched AI image generator allows users to create reality-warping satellite and 3D imagery using simple text prompts. While Google pitches the feature for visualizing historical sites and real estate projects, security experts have demonstrated that it can easily be used to generate convincing, deceptive images—such as staged geopolitical conflicts or refugee crises—that can spread misinformation. Although Google includes SynthID digital watermarks and verification tools, these features can still be overlooked, bypassed, or struggle against detection tools, highlighting the severe risks of integrating generative AI into mapping platforms.
