OpenAI launches ChatGPT desktop app for Linux

OpenAI has officially launched a dedicated ChatGPT desktop app for Linux in preview, fulfilling long-standing requests from the open-source developer community. The worldwide release brings ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex to major desktop operating systems. Initially, the supported distributions include Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, and Fedora 43 and 44, with compatibility likely extending to downstream derivatives. This move follows competitor Anthropic, which released a Claude desktop app for Linux approximately a month prior.
