Nvidia launches free tool that links idle computers into a personal AI data center

Nvidia has announced Personal AI Router (PAIR), a free, open-source software tool that discovers compatible computers on a home network and links them to collectively process local AI inference tasks. PAIR is designed to utilize the idle computing power of devices, primarily those with Nvidia GeForce RTX 20-series or newer GPUs, though Apple M4 chips or newer are also supported. The system distributes workloads across multiple machines to prevent bottlenecks on a single GPU, which is particularly useful for agentic AI workflows that break complex tasks into smaller jobs. Security is managed through a pairing code and encrypted communication channels. While Nvidia envisions typical users having one or two powerful computers, the tool aims to harness underutilized household compute resources. Additionally, Nvidia announced that several AI agent apps will offer simplified local setup with Nvidia GPUs on Windows.
