Huawei plans Q1 2027 launch of new AI chip as it takes on Nvidia

Huawei announced at its Huawei Connect conference that it is moving up the launch of its next-generation Ascend 960DT AI chip from Q3 to Q1 2027. The company aims to challenge Nvidia's dominance by linking hundreds of thousands of chips into a single massive computer via its Peerium Computing Architecture. The first systems, like the Atlas 950 SuperCluster, will be built on this architecture. However, some analysts note the scale of the announced SuperPoD is smaller than previously outlined. Huawei continues its chip development despite U.S. restrictions, with experts arguing that China's push for semiconductor self-sufficiency is too critical to be halted.
