Florida seeks a ban on ChatGPT acting like a person

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is calling for a court order to block OpenAI from "giving ChatGPT false human attributes," including the use of first-person pronouns and emotional language that makes the AI appear to be a trustworthy "friend." Uthmeier argues this deceptive design increases engagement and training data while potentially reducing trustworthiness. The filing also asks the court to bar OpenAI from developing new AI models without "third-party approved safety guardrails," citing recent security incidents at Hugging Face, an Australian government website, and US government websites. Uthmeier stated OpenAI should "Stop calling it safe. Stop pretending it's human. Stop selling it to kids," noting OpenAI's recent launch of ChatGPT for Teens. OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
