XREAL AURA: Wired XR glasses to watch, work, and play
Summary
Google and XREAL have officially launched XREAL AURA, the first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR. The glasses feature transparent lenses that project spatial content into the user's field of view, offering a 70-degree field of view for viewing spatial and 2D apps. Weighing under 95 grams, AURA offloads processing to a portable compute puck that houses the battery and the new Snapdragon Reality Elite platform from Qualcomm, debuting on this device. Gemini on Android XR can understand both the real world and on-screen content, enabling natural conversations and assistance across apps, including the ability to highlight what to focus on when sharing your view. Android XR brings millions of Google Play apps, including over 150 XR apps, to the device.
For productivity, users can open multiple apps at once and arrange them at any size, pair a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, or use the puck as a trackpad. Wired Mirroring lets a laptop join via USB-C, with its screen appearing as a resizable window alongside Android XR apps, and the private display allows viewing confidential documents in public. For entertainment, AURA turns any seat into a private theater; users can open YouTube, Google TV, or streaming services, dim the lenses to fade out the world, and enjoy immersive content including 180- and 360-degree videos, 3D movies, and new XR films such as "Nevatars" co-directed by Andy Serkis and Josh Nelson Youssef, "Galapagos: the Last Eden" narrated by Margot Robbie, and the San Francisco Ballet's "Nutcracker." Spatial view converts almost any video, photo, or game into 3D, and window follow mode keeps content centered. Google Photos will include a new spatial gallery this year.
For gaming, AURA offers a bigger screen for thousands of mobile and tablet games from Google Play, or games from handheld or PC via Wired Mirroring, with Gemini available for walkthroughs. XR games from studios like Owlchemy Labs and Resolution Games appear in the user's space and can be played with hands, with new titles including Fallout Factions and Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars. XREAL AURA is available for users 18+ to order today in the U.S., Canada, and Korea, and starting November 2 in Japan, with launch pricing starting at USD 1,099 through the end of the year. Orders can be placed at xreal.com/aura or, in the U.S., at BestBuy.com with shipments beginning in mid-November.
