Google Gemini now lets users generate, preview, and edit Google Docs, PDFs, Sheets, slide decks, and other files directly within chats.

Summary

Google Gemini now allows users to generate, preview, and edit a range of file types directly within chats, including PDFs, Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files, and code. These file editing capabilities are available starting today for all Gemini users. While PDF preview and editing works on both web and mobile, all other file formats are currently limited to the web version. Google previously added support for generating and downloading files in Gemini earlier this year, but users can now tweak those files without leaving the Gemini app. Users can expand documents to edit them in full-screen mode and highlight text to ask Gemini questions or prompt changes, such as highlighting a table and asking Gemini to turn it into a graph. Previously, editing files required using Gemini integrations in Google Workspace apps like the Gemini bar in Google Docs. Anthropic also launched a similar feature earlier this year that lets users generate and edit documents and presentations in Claude chats.
