Claude can now analyze your spending with its new Personal Finance tool
Summary
Anthropic announced Thursday that Claude now has a Personal Finance tool that lets users connect bank and credit card accounts through Plaid and ask questions about their money. Access is read-only, so Claude cannot move, manage, or invest funds. The tool positions Claude as a financial companion that explains balances, transactions, and terms in everyday language, with no ads or sponsored recommendations. Users can ask questions like where their money went, whether spending is higher than usual, or whether they are spending more than they earn. Claude can also flag duplicate charges, unexpected fees, and rising bills, and explain concepts such as APR while showing interest paid over the past year. Anthropic says Claude can access only bank and account names and types, last four digits of account numbers, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transaction history, and conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train models. The feature starts rolling out in beta this week to Pro, Max, and Ultra users in the U.S., following similar personal finance tools from OpenAI's ChatGPT in May, as Anthropic expands Claude into verticals including Legal and Financial Services.
