Google gives in to users’ complaints over AI-powered ‘Ask Photos’ search feature

Google is responding to user feedback by offering a toggle to switch between the AI-powered “Ask Photos” search feature and the previous “classic” search experience in Google Photos. Launched in 2024, “Ask Photos” allows natural language searches, but some users found it less accurate and slower than the original search. While Google previously offered a way to disable Gemini within Photos, it was difficult to find. The new toggle, prominently displayed on the search screen, provides a more visible option for users to choose their preferred search method. Google Photos lead Shimrit Ben-Yair stated the change was driven by user complaints and that improvements to popular searches have also been made based on feedback, emphasizing Google’s commitment to refining the search experience.
