DeepMind’s David Silver just raised $1.1B to build an AI that learns without human data

Ineffable Intelligence, an AI lab founded by former DeepMind researcher David Silver, has secured $1.1 billion in funding at a $5.1 billion valuation. The company aims to develop a "superlearner" that acquires knowledge and skills through reinforcement learning, without relying on human data. Silver, an expert in reinforcement learning, previously led DeepMind's team, developing AI like AlphaZero that mastered games like chess and Go through self-play. Ineffable Intelligence's ambitious goal is to create an AI that can explain and build all intelligence, comparable to Darwin's theory of life. The funding round was led by Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with significant participation from investors like Index Ventures, Google, and Nvidia, highlighting the growing AI hub in London.
