Google brings Gemini in Chrome to India
Summary
Google announced the expansion of Gemini integration for Chrome to new regions, including India, Canada, and New Zealand. This feature allows desktop users to access Gemini via a sidebar to ask questions about screen content, retrieve information from Gmail, Keep, Drive, and YouTube, and compare tab contents. The rollout supports several Indian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil. Users can activate the feature via an "Ask Gemini" icon on the tab bar, enabling tasks like summarizing content or working across multiple tabs for comparisons. Gemini can also connect with other Google apps like Maps and Calendar for personalized answers, and users can compose emails or get YouTube video summaries directly within the sidebar. Additionally, Google is rolling out Gemini support for Chrome on iOS in India. However, the more advanced agentic capabilities, which allow the AI to complete tasks on the user's behalf, are being kept out of this expansion for users in India, New Zealand, and Canada.
