You can now ask Google Maps ‘complex, real-world questions’ — and Gemini will answer

Google is rolling out a new AI-powered feature in Google Maps called "Ask Maps," which utilizes Gemini to answer complex, real-world questions with highly detailed and personalized responses. This feature allows users to describe plans conversationally, and Gemini will sift through Maps data, reviews, and photos to provide tailored suggestions, even offering the ability to book reservations with a single tap. Google clarified that these personalized responses rely solely on data from Google Maps and relevant past searches, not other Google apps like Gmail. Currently, paid placements will not influence recommendations. The feature is launching this week in the US and India on mobile devices. Additionally, Google is introducing "Immersive Navigation," the largest upgrade to the navigation experience in over a decade, featuring refreshed colors, detailed 3D buildings, realistic terrain, and dynamic camera zooms to highlight critical road information, which begins rolling out in the US next week.
