Google launches Gemini 4 Carbon with a ‘significant leap’ in cybersecurity
Summary
Google has released its latest frontier model, Gemini 4 Carbon, claiming significant gains in coding, agentic tasks, and cybersecurity. According to Google, Carbon tops the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index (v5.0) benchmark, ahead of Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra. The model improves on Argon, released earlier this month, and is currently available only to a select group of cybersecurity defense companies, with plans to expand to other partners in its Fairwind Program. Google says Carbon delivers a significant leap in cyberdefense, making it better at finding vulnerabilities and generating secure code; it holds the top spot on SEC-bench Pro, which measures an AI model's ability to discover real-world bugs, and ExploitGym, which measures turning vulnerabilities into exploits. Carbon is built for longer tasks, with internal teams reporting it can run for days and persist through dead ends on complex, multi-step engineering tasks. It is also said to be better at avoiding shortcuts, resisting prompt injection attacks, and collaborating with users, and to offer more transparency and honesty by cutting unsupported claims by two times compared to Argon. It launches at the same introductory price as Argon: $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.
