Perplexity launches its own take on AI agents for work
Summary
Perplexity is entering the work-focused AI agent market, competing with OpenAI and Anthropic. Its new always-on "Teammates" can take on multiple roles within a workspace and pull existing projects, skills, and memory from the Perplexity tools users already rely on. Teammates build on Perplexity Computer, an AI system that deploys agents on a user's device to complete tasks, by adding collaboration and the ability to handle ongoing, large-scale work. Users can assign each Teammate different jobs that run simultaneously, similar to OpenAI's Dots and Claude Duet. However, Perplexity's version is far more expensive, requiring a subscription to its $200 per month Max plan. Users can track Teammates' progress through individual threads in the Perplexity app and interact with them in Slack. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas said on X that the company envisions every organization eventually having hundreds of teammates working for each person.
