OpenAI’s Sora video generator is reportedly coming to ChatGPT

According to a report by The Information, OpenAI is considering integrating its Sora video generator directly into ChatGPT. Currently, Sora is available as a standalone app or on its website, but hasn't reached the same level of popularity as ChatGPT. This integration would mirror the addition of image generation capabilities to ChatGPT last year. While it could attract more users to ChatGPT, it also raises concerns about a potential increase in the creation of deepfakes, especially given past instances of disrespectful deepfakes and copyright violations with Sora. The increased accessibility within ChatGPT may also make it harder to enforce OpenAI’s safety measures, such as watermarks. This move comes as OpenAI faces growing competition from Anthropic’s Claude, which has gained popularity partly due to its refusal to cooperate with Pentagon surveillance requests, unlike OpenAI. Integrating Sora could be an attempt to win back users, but it may also lead to increased costs and potential pricing changes for ChatGPT.
