Truecaller has introduced a new feature enabling users to designate a family member as an administrator who can receive fraud alerts and remotely terminate calls on behalf of other family members. Initially launched in select countries, the feature is now available worldwide, including India, and is free for all users. The admin can manage a group of up to five members, receiving alerts on both iOS and Android, but can only end calls for Android users. Additional permissions on Android allow the admin to monitor activity like walking or driving to avoid disturbing family members at inconvenient times. Truecaller also allows admins to block numbers and share blocklists. While the admin cannot access call or SMS history, this feature addresses the growing problem of scam calls, particularly in India, where Truecaller identified over 7.7 billion fraud calls last year. The company is also exploring AI-powered solutions to further enhance fraud detection and prevention, despite facing financial challenges and competition from India’s CNAP system.
