Introducing The Anthropic Institute

Anthropic
Anthropic launched The Anthropic Institute to research and inform the public about the societal challenges posed by rapidly advancing powerful AI systems.

Summary

Anthropic has launched The Anthropic Institute, a new initiative dedicated to addressing the significant challenges that powerful AI systems will pose to society. Given the accelerating pace of AI progress, the Institute aims to provide research and information for external researchers and the public to navigate the transition to a world with much more capable AI. The Institute's goal is to candidly report on what Anthropic learns while building frontier AI systems and to partner with external groups to confront risks. It is led by co-founder Jack Clark, now Anthropic’s Head of Public Benefit, and integrates interdisciplinary staff from the Frontier Red Team, Societal Impacts, and Economic Research teams, while also incubating new efforts like forecasting AI progress and legal interaction. Key founding hires include Matt Botvinick for work on AI and the rule of law, and Anton Korinek to lead economic transformation studies. Concurrently, Anthropic is expanding its Public Policy organization, led by Sarah Heck, to inform and shape global AI governance, including opening its first DC office.
