The Orleans Parish Communication District in New Orleans is integrating AI answering agents, provided by the company Carbyne, into its 911 emergency dispatch workflow. The tool, called AI Emergency Call Triage, is designed to filter incoming calls, route high-priority emergencies to human operators, and handle repeat calls for ongoing incidents. While officials claim this will help manage high call volumes, critics raise concerns about the reliability and vulnerability of AI voice technology in high-stakes life-or-death situations, joining cities like Seattle and Atlanta in adopting similar systems.
