Building advertising for the way people use AI

OpenAI
OpenAI is introducing a visual ad format in ChatGPT and expanding measurement tools and brand suitability partnerships.

Summary

OpenAI announced a new visual ad format for ChatGPT, which reaches 1.2 billion people weekly and is described as the world's largest AI-native consumer platform. The format will initially be tested during image generation in the US later this month with a select group of advertisers; ads will be clearly labeled, remain separate from the generated image, and will not influence ChatGPT's answers. OpenAI is also expanding its measurement ecosystem through integrations with Hightouch, Tealium, and LiveRamp, attribution partnerships spanning web and app channels, and incrementality experimentation with partners such as Haus, Measured, and WorkMagic. Early partner results cited include WeightWatchers' attributed cost per acquisition on ChatGPT Ads being 15.3% lower than its blended paid-search benchmark, statistically significant lift for wellness brand Dose with 67% of incremental purchases from net-new customers, and 93% of Portland Leather's visitors from ChatGPT Ads being new. On brand suitability, OpenAI pointed to advertising policies and placement guardrails that assess whether a conversation is appropriate for advertising, supported by automated review, human oversight, and ongoing monitoring, plus new Negative Phrases for qualifying advertisers and brand suitability evaluation pilots with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science. OpenAI reiterated its ads principles: ChatGPT's answers stay independent, conversations stay private, and users remain in control. Businesses can sign up at ads.openai.com.
